I don’t know what it is about sequels here lately, but someone’s getting it right finally. While lacking the novelty of the first movie, I loved how this second go actually kept with the feel, attitude, and fun of the first one. I even enjoyed the addition of romance, because it made sense in the progression of the storyline.
Walking the straight and narrow seems to be working well for Gru as a new father. He’s willing to go above and beyond to make things wonderful for Margo, Edith, and Agnes. And who can blame him with such an adorable bunch?
But things can never stay simple for the former villain, especially when the AVL enlists Gru for his inside knowledge. The Anti-Villain League partners him up with a young agent, who happens to be a fan of Gru’s, to hunt down a stolen formula that creates crazed monsters. That’s when things get interesting.
Gru thinks he spies a villain that was believed to be dead. Agnes points out that she shouldn’t have to give a speech about mothers if she doesn’t have one. Minions are going missing. And who is this boy Margo has eyes for? Can Gru put it all together in time?
I give this sequel five stars lit up by a Lip-stick Taser!!!
